Grey, gray, greyness

Long time, no see.

It’s been a grey day. Got up at 12. Last night was rubbish. Watched the euro qualification game scotland against the czech republic. 0-1 and the most annoying game ever. I am not going to watch a scottish footbal match ever again. Anyway after the game we decided to have (typically scottish) fried food. In this case chips with gravy and onion rings, my stomach hurts. So today was all about studying, avoiding our filthy kitchen and thus no eating. But finally someone cleaned it up, so now it is all good.

Anyway my mid- semester tests are coming up next week so I need to stay on top of the workload. Next weekend promises to be a blast cause I will be home for 2 days. I hope it is going to be special.

One more adventure that needs to be told. I actually went to a club on wednesday night. It was pretty awesome yet a new experience. Apparently some bloaks wear suits and ties when they go clubbing and the birds wore their slutty dresses with either rubbishmen’s vests or blackbags. Plus everybody seemed to paint their faces or write things on their bodies in permanent marker. Good stuff, I felt a little too old for that. Anyway, booze was only 1 quid so we got hamered and still had a good time.

So far so good.

People are playing edward cider- hands: 2 bottles of cider taped to your hands and you have to finish both before taking them off. Great fun.

The pöbb is coming…

Last week in a pub on Rose Street. Me and my parents were enjoying our last pints together and were almost ready to go when a drunk chap, I like to call him Rolf, came up to share important information with us.

Rolf: The pöbb is coming to Scotland.

Me: Sorry?

Rolf: The pöbb is coming to Scotland( sip).. next week.

Me (confused): Ah, alright.

Rolf: You know the pöbb…

( Repeat this conversation for 5 minutes)

Me: So, the pöbb, eh?- Who’s that?

Rolf: You know, the pöbb…benedict. HE WAS TALKING ABOUT THE POPE!!!

( unsuccessful conversation about whether he is a catholic or not..)

Rolf: You are from Germany, eh?

Me: Yes.

Rolf: You know (name of a scottish football player) played for Borussia Dortmund. ( some 20 years ago or so…)

Me: Oh yeah, did he? ( annoyed) ( how am I going to get out of this?)

Rolf: Yeah, but his wife just couldn’t handle Germany.

(Repeat conversation 20 times until he finally takes a sip of his pint, which gives us enough time to piss off)

Bottom Line: YES, the POPE is coming to Edinburgh tomorrow. Do I give a damn…

Getting started

So Monday was my first day of university. I had introductory lectures in Accounting and Microeconomics which went quite well. Found out that I will have comprehension tests in Accounting every week, which really freaked me out yet encouraged me to study hard right from the beginning. Nevertheless, the good news is that I won’t have to take lots of notes during lectures because they are all on the internet already. Anyway I signed up for most of my tutorials and workshops so my timetable is almost done by now. Unfortunately I will not have Thursdays off, as I expected, because there is only one Tutorial spot left for me on Thursdays at 1. Bad luck I guess, but that’s fair enough.

Since there are no Tutorials this week I had today off to do my laundry and study a bit. Surprisingly the laundry mission went quite well so that I can finally change my boxers and socks ;-)

So that’s about it for my first adventures at university. There is more to follow soon.

PS: Pictures will be available once I got myself a decent camera.

new place, new smells, new people

Welcome everybody!

Fresher’s week is just about to end tomorrow, and so far it has been alright. I’ve been to a couple of events, nothing to exciting though because it is mostly about drinking and hanging around. My place by the way is a 4x3m prison cell but comfortable nontheless and I made myself home already. My hallmates are all alright, except my next door neighbour whose alarm clock goes off every morning but does not wake him up but me. I’m sharing a kitchen with 4 other guys and it already looks like a mess, I wonder how that is going to work out throughout the year. Classes are about to start on monday, and I am quite excited because I’ll finally have something to do and to focus on. My timetable isn’t ready yet, still haven’t figured out how to fit in all the modules and lectures, but I’m confident. Bad news is I already got a cold, which really pisses me off because I want to start my courses in good health.

Anyway, that is it for my first blog. Needless to say that I really miss my dear friends from home especially my beloved girlfriend.
